January Citizenship Ceremony Community Survey

Get involved. Have your say until 11/05/2024.

Information

Community engagement is now underway to understand the community’s preference for when the City hosts January citizenship ceremonies.

The City of Wanneroo holds citizenship ceremonies year-round on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs, including an annual January ceremony that has historically been held on Australia Day (26 January), as mandated by the Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code.

In 2022, the Australian Government updated the Code to allow greater flexibility for local governments to hold citizenship ceremonies on the three days before or after 26 January.

The City is interested to learn about the community’s preferences for when the City holds January citizenship ceremonies.

Independent market researcher Thinkfield invites the community to take part in an online survey from 22 April – 11 May 2024.

Launch Survey

A random sample of residents will also be asked to take part in a face-to-face survey during this time.

The consultant’s key findings and final report will be presented to Council to help inform their decision on when the City will hold January Citizenship ceremonies going forward.
