North Wanneroo Landowner Survey - Gnangara Groundwater Allocation Plan

Community engagement has now closed. Comments were submitted from 10/10/2022 to 07/11/2022.

Information

The State Government recently released its Gnangara Groundwater Allocation Plan, which outlines how it will seek to replenish this groundwater system. The Plan proposes a series of water allocation reductions to groundwater system users including a 10% reduction to agricultural water licence holders that will come into effect between 2028 and 2032. However, the irrigation of plants or trees for commercial purposes at established nurseries and tree farms will be exempt.

The City agrees with the overall need to reduce groundwater usage, however it has maintained that it does not support water reductions for agricultural growers. This is reflected in the City’s Agribusiness Position Paper, submission on the draft Gnangara Groundwater Allocation Plan and through meetings and discussions with relevant State Government departments.

As our discussions with the State Government continue, it is important that our strategic directions and advocacy approaches align with our community’s needs and priorities. As an important first step in this process, we ask you to complete this short survey to help us to understand the implications of water allocation reductions and changes on both the agricultural industry and the future of the North Wanneroo rural area.
