Coastal Projects - Quinns Rocks - Universal Access Fishing Platform

Project description

The City of Wanneroo undertook a Feasibility Study for the installation of a Universal Access Fishing Platform in Quinns Rocks or Mindarie in 2023 in response to community requests and a Motion considered by Council in 2021.

Development of the fishing platform design was undertaken following extensive engagement with various stakeholders including State Government, Recfishwest, Fishability and Local Fishing Clubs. A community survey was also undertaken which indicated that 97% of respondents supported the installation of a universal fishing platform in Quinns Rocks or Mindarie. Four fishing platform concepts were developed within the Feasibility Study and following a Multi Criteria Assessment process, the preferred location at the southern groyne at Frederick Stubbs Carpark in Quinns Rocks was selected due to the following:

  • Preferred location by project stakeholders including Fishability;
  • More sheltered from high wave conditions compared with other location option;
  • Close proximity to supporting infrastructure including parking and toilet facilities; and
  • Close proximity to additional amenities including Cafes, Frederick Stubbs Park and beaches.

Detailed design of the fishing platform structure is now complete and construction is scheduled for November 2026 to April 2027, subject to Council and State Government approvals.
