Yellagonga Integrated Catchment Management program

The Yellagonga Integrated Catchment Management (YICM) Planning Project is a joint initiative between the Cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo. The project is aimed at improving the health of the Yellagonga Regional Park wetland system and involves looking at managing the sources of the health problems for the Yellagonga wetlands instead of simply treating the symptoms. It is the first of its kind in terms of its regional approach and coordination between stakeholders in the development of an integrated catchment management plan.

The YICM Plan provides a holistic and long-term approach to improve catchment health and protect the diverse values of the Yellagonga Regional Park. Extensive community and stakeholder consultation has been undertaken to identify and understand key processes and activities occurring within the Yellagonga catchment that impact on the Park. Threats to catchment health form the basis for key projects in the implementation plan.
