Wanneroo Local Heritage Survey Project
Tell us what heritage places are important to you?
Thank you to everyone who participated in the community engagement for the City's Wanneroo Local Heritage Survey (LHS).
The engagement period is now closed. However, you can continue to view the City's new interactive map listing all the places in the City's existing Wanneroo LHS and new nominations.
Note: It's best to view the map on a large computer screen.
In coming months after Council endorse the draft LHS, there will be further opportunity for the community to comment. Community feedback will be critical during this next community engagement phase as this type of review is only completed every 5-8 years.
Contact Project Manager Susan Dalgleish for enquiries or Community Engagement Advisor John Steyntjes if you need any help with the mapping tool or Your Say.
Background
The WA Heritage Act requires local governments to identify places of cultural heritage significance through a local heritage survey (LHS) and the City of Wanneroo is committed to protecting and conserving heritage places.
Heritage surveys provide the base information for local heritage planning to achieve consistency, strategic direction and community support, and are periodically subject to review and update.
As community involvement is critical to such reviews, public engagement is a key component.
The Local Heritage Survey (LHS) for the Wanneroo area is reviewed once every four years and we are now inviting the community to nominate places for assessment and potential inclusion into the survey.
Accordingly, the review of the City of Wanneroo’s Local Heritage Survey will involve a two-phase community engagement process.
Phase 1 will focus on inviting the community to nominate places for assessment and potential inclusion into the heritage survey. Outputs from the engagement will be summarised in a Final Engagement Report and provided to Council for consideration.
Phase 2 of the review will focus on feedback and comments to the draft 2022 Local Heritage Survey.
The strength of the information contained within the LHS is influenced by community engagement and contribution.
We encourage all residents and ratepayers to visit our interactive map to review existing and nominate heritage places and sites for inclusion on the LHS.
Community feedback and findings will be summarised in a Final Engagement Report and provided to Council for consideration.
