Marathon Loop Gnangara Road Intersection Accessibility

Community engagement has now closed. Comments were submitted from 19/01/2016 to 08/02/2016.

Information

The City wishes to thank all residents that attended the information sessions held last year regarding the intersection at Gnangara Road and Marathon Loop.

Following the December information session, residents expressed concern over the lack of community support for the option that was to be presented to Council in February.

In addition, more recently the City has undertaken further research and in order to provide a secondary access from the north of Buffalo Avenue, investigated another option which is based on the construction of an access road from the North of Buffalo Avenue to Gavranich Way.

This option is similar to that requested by the community at the earlier community information session involving a connection to Windsor Road from the northern end of Buffalo Road.
After considering the concerns expressed by community members regarding Emergency Access Driveway option and that a further option is feasible, it has been decided to seek further feedback from the community on the three options that are now considered suitable for further consideration.

This demonstrates that Council is responding to the community’s view to be engaged further and to ensure that a best possible option is chosen to address the issues concerning the community.

Option C - Left-In at Marathon Loop West/Gnangara Road intersection and construction of an access road from the north end of Buffalo Avenue, north to Gavranich Way, as shown in the City’s drawing no. 3128-9-0

Provides a full second access to the area which will cover emergency vehicle access

The drawings listed in the above options can be found in the 'Document Library' below.

The City is now seeking your feedback on the preferred option. Please complete the below survey in the 'Get Involved' section no later than 8 February 2016.

Due to undertaking of this additional community consultation, the report to Council will now be presented at its meeting of 1 March 2016 for considering your feedback and determining funding and timeframe for the construction of the preferred option by majority of respondents of this survey.

In order to answer any questions that you may have in relation to these options which may assist you in forming your opinion, the City’s Traffic Engineers will also be available on site at the northern end of Buffalo Avenue from 3.00 pm to 6.00pm on the 1 February 2016.
A progress update report on this matter will also be presented to Council at its meeting on 2 February 2016 and the Briefing Session on 27 January 2016. Reports will be available on the City’s website after 5.00pm on Friday before the Council meeting and the Briefing Session.

Please note that your feedback is very important for making the best recommendation to Council reflecting your views. While the report to Council on the choice of an option is being deferred by a month to undertake this further community consultation, the overall timeframe of the delivery of an option remains the same. Subject to Council decision on the choice of a suitable option and allocation of funds, Options A or C can be designed as priority during the current financial year and constructed during the first half of the next financial year; and Option B can be designed and constructed by May 2016.

In the meantime, should you have any queries please contact the City’s Transport and Traffic Team on 9405 5000.
