City of Wanneroo Bicycle Plan

Bicycle Strategy

The City of Wanneroo is pleased to announce the development of a new bicycle plan to deliver the vision of transforming The City to a more bicycle-friendly environment that better caters for cyclists of all types.

Our Vision

'To make cycling an integral part of daily life in Wanneroo, so that persons of all ages and abilities can utilise bicycles safely for all types of trips.'

One of the key components of The City’s bicycle strategy is to create a traffic environment that actively encourages cycling through its community, and links major activity centres such as schools, commercial precents and new residential developments within the transport hub.

Cycling is healthy, environmentally-friendly and supports local community and economic activity. For these reasons many choose to cycle or would choose to cycle if the infrastructure is provided. However, it is a big challenge to change travel patterns and get more people to cycle rather than take the car.

Why Cycle?

There are significant benefits that can be achieved through increased levels of cycling that apply to both individuals and the broader community, including:

  • Reduced congestion on the road network
  • Improved health and fitness
  • Energy efficiency and less use of petrol and fossil fuels
  • Cost savings to Governments
  • Less cost to individuals
  • Improved accessibility to activities by people of all ages

Community Engagement

The City of Wanneroo aims to actively encourage cycling in order to achieve its community vision for a more bicycle – friendly city. As part of the Wanneroo bike plan development, we are conducting extensive community engagement and would like to invite you to attend one of three public meetings to discuss your views and share any comments or opinions you have as part of this project:

Tuesday 24 March 2015 - 6:30pm to 8pm

Monday 30 March 2015 - 6:30pm to 8pm

Receiving feedback from you is important to ensure The City maintains a community vision and aspiration that will create a high quality, connected and accessible bicycle network that will attract and encourage a broader spectrum of the community to cycle.
