The City of Wanneroo is calling on all young people with a creative mind and a passion for sustainability to be a re-inventor!

Delivered by the City of Wanneroo in partnership with Switch Your Thinking, the Young Re-inventor of the Year competition is calling on young people to re-invent rubbish into something that helps keep our waterways clean or conserves water.

Submissions are invited from children of all ages, including those in early years learning centres, primary schools, high schools, after school care, community groups  and individuals.

All entrants will receive a certificate and be in the running to share in $3000 in prizes.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said she encouraged all young people in the City to get involved.

“This is a great opportunity for our young residents to put on their creative hats and find ways to conserve our precious water while putting unwanted rubbish to good use,” Mayor Roberts said.

“I would like to see the entire Wanneroo community thinking differently about the rubbish we produce and how we can all help protect our natural environment.

“The most inspiring re-inventor will walk away with the Change Makers award and a $500 sustainability prize pack.”

Submissions close on Monday 22 October 2018.

This is the sixth Young Re-inventor of the Year competition. Last year, children were challenged to re-invent rubbish to bring their garden to life.

Liam from Landsdale took out equal first place in the community category for his artistic sculpture of a dog made out of scrap metal, golf balls, a paint roller and hula skirt.

Switch Your Thinking is a local government sustainability initiative.
