Extractive Industry Licence Application – Western, Central and Southeastern Portions of Lot 6 (86) Wesco Road, Nowergup

Development Approval was granted by the City of Wanneroo to Northsands Resources to carry out Extractive Industry and inert landfill on a portion of Lot 6 (86) Wesco Road, Nowergup on 24 May 2019. 

In accordance with the requirements of the City of Wanneroo’s Extractive Industries Local Law 1998, Northsands Resources has also submitted an Extractive Industry Licence application to continue limestone and sand extraction on this land, which is now subject to public comment. The Extractive Industry Licence application also pertains to the carrying out of other activities that are directly associated with resource extraction (e.g. crushing and screening of extracted material), but does not pertain to inert landfill activities.

Key details of the works subject to the Extractive Industry Licence application are as follows:

• The duration of extraction is 25 years – however a time period up to 10 years has been applied for at this time;
  
• Up to 450,000 tonnes of sand and limestone extracted per year;
• Operating hours of 7:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays);
• Vehicle access to the subject lot is proposed to be from the existing access way which runs from Wesco Road;
• It is expected that there will be approximately 20 vehicle movements per day;
• Continued use of the site office and depot facilities already on the subject lot; and
• Re-use of pits as landfill – as approved by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation. Landfill areas would then be rehabilitated.

Potential submitters should note that there is another separate Extractive Industry Licence application affecting Lot 6 (86) Wesco Road, which is also being advertised. That application affects different portions of Lot 6 and has been submitted by Meteor Stone.
