Community Facility Projects - Yanchep - Splendid Park - upgrade of floodlighting on ovals

Project description

This project has been funded under the Australian Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program – Phase 3.

The Splendid Park upgrade floodlighting project was made possible through $420,000 funding from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In September 2020, Council endorsed a revised Sport Floodlighting Policy. One of the key outcomes of this revision was the change to increase the minimum lighting provision to 100 lux.

Splendid Park in Yanchep, is a district level public open space which under the updated policy, is eligible for 100 lux lighting. The current lighting provided at Splendid Park is to the training standard of 50 lux only.

The lighting upgrade will also provide the ability for Splendid Park to host competitions such as the junior female AFL, which is hosted on a Friday night and other night competition fixtures for both Soccer and AFL.
