Key Election Dates
- Nominations Open: Thursday, 28 August 2025
- Nominations Close: Thursday, 4 September 2025 at 4:00 PM
- Election Day: Saturday, 18 October 2025

Western Australian Electoral Commission information video
The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) have released a video providing important information concerning eligibility to be a candidate, nomination process, postal voting information, voting, Election Day and Election Night.
WALGA Candidate Information Webinar
Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) together with the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) and the WA Electoral Commission (WAEC), hosted an Election Candidate Information Briefing webinar on Monday 18 August.
The webinar was created to support individuals considering nominating and provide a clear overview of:
- the election process
- the responsibilities of Council Members and Local Governments
- the regulatory role of LGIRS in Western Australia

Resources for Prospective Council Members

Election signs/advertising
An election sign is a sign which encourages a person to vote for a particular political candidate, political party, referenda or matter relating to any Federal, State, or Local Government election, however, excludes bumper stickers. To find out about the requirements for election signs, please refer to election signage information.
Returning Officer
The City’s Returning Officer is appointed by the Western Australian Electoral Commission and is responsible for the conduct and processes associated with the City of Wanneroo local government elections. The Returning Officer can provide further information to the election process.
