Some residents’ general waste bins will not have their lids changed over to red lids during May and June. This is because the property owner has requested a new, smaller 140L general waste bin or the old general waste bin is incompatible and will need to be replaced with a new bin. These new bins will be delivered between July and August.
If you have had a sticker placed on your bin for one of these reasons and would like to know more, please read the most frequently asked questions for the relevant option below.
Incompatible Bin FAQs
The new red lids currently being fitted to all City of Wanneroo general waste bins are not compatible with all old bins. To ensure your new lid fits securely, your old bin will be swapped out for a new bin.
The City of Wanneroo is fitting all its general waste bins with a red lid to align with Australian Standards.
Following the completion of this process, bins with the old dark green lid will not be emptied by the City of Wanneroo.
Once your new bin has arrived, it is ready for use. Leave your old empty general waste bin out for removal from 6am to 6pm the following business day. If your bin is normally collected on a Friday, we will be back to remove your old 240L waste bin the following Monday.
What will happen to my old bin?
All old bins removed from service are recycled into new plastic products, such as new kerbside bins.
When and how will my old bin be replaced?
Your old bin will be replaced with a new 240L general waste bin with a red lid, the same size as your existing bin. Replacement bins will be delivered over the course of the next six months. If you have registered with us for SMS/email updates, we will contact you with expected delivery dates.
Will my new general waste bin be the same size as my old one?
Yes. All incompatible bins will be replaced with a new bin of the same size. Only households that have opted-in to receive a smaller 140L general waste bin will receive one.
Can I find out when my bin will be swapped?
If you registered for SMS/email updates, you will be notified of an expected delivery date for your area the week beforehand.
