City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said Councillor Truong provided strong community representation, particularly among the Vietnamese community, and the radio program appreciated her involvement.

"Councillor Truong is very passionate about our community and I am so pleased that her efforts have been recognised on a national level," she said.

"Many residents with Vietnamese heritage have chosen to make the City of Wanneroo home and it is wonderful to see the introduction of Lac Viet Radio.

"CBAA judges said they had a very difficult time selecting the finalists because each entry was of a very high standard, so being a finalist is a very significant achievement."

Councillor Truong's program was nominated by 89.7 Twin Cities FM's programming department and is one of four finalists in the Excellence in Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasting category.

Winners will be announced at the 2014 CBAA Awards Gala dinner on Saturday, 8 November in Adelaide.

The CBAA is the national peak body for community radio stations and provides leadership and support to facilitate independent broadcasting services to strengthen local communities.

CBAA congratulated finalists for their fantastic contribution to the community broadcasting sector and said community broadcasting in Australia continued to amaze, with its quality, vitality and diversity.
