Hard work of volunteers celebrated

Published Monday, 29th February 2016

The continued efforts of City of Wanneroo Community Services and Conservation volunteers were recognised with a dinner at Bridgeleigh Reception Centre on Friday.

Volunteers function 2016
City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts praised the volunteers for their commitment to the
community and for being part of what makes the City of Wanneroo a great place to live.

"As a City, we are extremely fortunate to have active volunteers who look after those in our
community who need support and who genuinely care for the lifestyles of others," she said.

"From helping the elderly with shopping to teaching children about our nature reserves, our
volunteers work tirelessly to help make the City of Wanneroo a better place.

"On behalf of all City residents, I would like to thank our volunteers for making a vital
contribution to our community."

The following volunteers were awarded with the City's Volunteer Excellence Award for their
invaluable assistance:

Renee Solomon, Social Support Program and Shoppers Bus

Renee juggles family life with volunteering on social support outings and as an assistant on
a fortnightly shoppers bus.

Renee was nominated for the award as she always has a smile and kind words for her
clients, and her patience and passion is extraordinary.

Roy Bastick, Community Transport

Roy has been a volunteer driver with community transport for the past decade and is always
reliable, rain or shine, each fortnight.
Roy was recognised for his safe and conscientious driving and as someone who takes his
role seriously and feels it is important to give back to the community where possible.

Heather Chester, Friends of Yellagonga

Heather is involved in supporting the Chairman and committee, compiling the agenda and
recording minutes for meetings, responding to correspondence, writing newsletters, social
media, and preparing media releases for the group’s activities and achievements.
Alongside this work, Heather also hosts work days for scouts groups, schools, universities
and businesses.

Caroline Farley, Wanneroo Volunteer Centre

Caroline has been volunteering for more than two years and during this time shown excellent
customer service skills when running the Volunteer Centre.

Caroline has also volunteered in various other projects within the City of Wanneroo, such as
