Celebrate Wanneroo’s history with free events at the Heritage Festival

The Heritage Festival has a number of enjoyable events happening in the City of Wanneroo as part of the National Trust Heritage Festival 2016.

Museum in a box
Museum in a Box

The Museum in a Box program has been designed for use by educational institutions
throughout Perth. The City has curated four different boxes, each addressing a different
person or subject connected to World War 1 and the Wanneroo area.

Each box contains real museum specimens and artefacts, images, DVDs, CDs, books and
educational resources.

Wrecks and Recreation: Wonders of the Wanneroo Coast

From whaling to holiday shacks, the Wanneroo coast is full of historical riches.

To showcase its history, the Wanneroo Regional Museum will be conduction a series of
activities in the April school holidays about the area’s shipwreck past and maritime history.

Heritage High Tea

The Wanneroo Museum and Elixir Café will host a traditional high tea set in the grounds of
historic Buckingham House.

After indulging in a selection of sweet and savoury delights, guest will be given a tour of
Buckingham House. The historic house was built more than 130 years ago and housed
many prominent families over the years, before being acquired and restored by the City in
the 1970s.

Young Curator Workshop

Come along to the Great Court in the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre to gain some
hands on museum experience. Learn about museums and explore mystery objects from the
collection.

Visitors will have the opportunity to write their own museum label, learn about conservation
and clean and prepare objects for museum display. Fun for all ages.

The Great Wanneroo Bake Off

The City will host its inaugural Bake Off competition with prizes for those who deliver the
most delicious sweet treats to the judging panel.

Please deliver baked goods to Cockman House on Sunday 8 May between 11am and 1pm.

The winners will be announced during Mother’s Day Picnic at Cockman House that
afternoon.

Mother’s Day Picnic

Bring the family and a picnic down to Cockman House to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Enjoy a relaxed afternoon, playing old fashioned games including skittles and noughts and
crosses, before taking a tour inside the heritage listed house.

The popular Book Cubby will be available for children to use to design and print their own
special book for Mother’s Day, with a copy of each book being displayed at the Wanneroo
Library the following week.
