The City of Wanneroo and not-for-profit organisation MercyCare are jointly launching a new hub that will offer high quality services and programs to cater for local needs.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the development of the Integrated Services Community Hub will provide residents with an opportunity to engage with a range of service providers.

“The hub aims to strengthen the Merriwa community by providing a place for services in a safe, central, and affordable location that will complement services already available in the area,” Mayor Roberts said.

“Statistics show there is a high percentage of people including seniors and frail aged individuals needing help in their day-to-day core activities therefore services will be designed to provide support.

“Consultation and engagement with the community, in addition to service providers will be undertaken to ensure the hub meets local service gaps while building on the community’s strengths.

“As our population grows, so do the demand for services and we are committed to ensuring services and opportunities are available so everyone can enjoy a good quality of life.”

MercyCare Chief Executive Officer Chris Hall said eventually staff from several other MercyCare programs including mental health and workforce development would also work from the site.

"By working with other organisations to share information, make referrals and establish strong links between services, we can provide greater support to those who experience disadvantage,” Mr Hall said.

"We hope that this hub will grow to be a focal point for the community and will help to increase social cohesion and participation in community life.

"On a more personal level, we hope that being part of the hub will help families create friendships and support networks and give them a sense of belonging."

The Integrated Services Community Hub will open on 19 August and will operate from the Merriwa Administration Office.
