Work set to begin on new community centre

Published Monday, 12th September 2016

The Quinns Mindarie Community Centre is a step closer, with site works starting on the new facility this week.

Construction

Broad Construction Services were awarded the tender last month, with construction expected to be completed in July 2017.

The $4million project involves the construction of a second storey extension to the existing Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club, which will allow for a multi-purpose facility with function hall, kitchen, meeting and training rooms and playground facilities.

City of Wanneroo Director of Assets Harminder Singh said the community centre would provide for the thriving northern coastal community.

“Once complete the building will service the Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club, Quinns Rocks Fishing Club, local playgroups and be available for wider community usage,” Mr Singh said.

During the construction period the surf club will be relocating some of their operations, including storage of their equipment, from the SLSC building to temporary sea containers. Portofino’s Restaurant and the adjacent car parking area will continue to operate as-normal.

The City would like to emphasise that Broad Construction Services are working on the community centre only, and there are not currently any works taking place at the nearby caravan park site.
