Support for pathway from Burns Beach to Mindarie

Published Friday, 21st October 2016

The City of Wanneroo has given ‘in principle’ support to a proposition that the state government commit $2 million towards a dual use pathway from Burns Beach to Mindarie.

The conditional support could see the coastal pathway for pedestrians and cyclists included in the City’s next two budgets, based on the state government’s commitment to make two instalment payments of $1 million each over the same period.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the route for the pathway is over state-owned land, including Bush Forever sites with significant environmental values.

“We will continue to work with the City of Joondalup and the state government to help make this a reality, especially if we can get clarity over land management arrangements and environmental matters," she said.

“Also, the developer of the Burns Beach residential estate is required to build a dual use pathway along the foreshore as a condition of its subdivision approval.

"Clearly all parties will have to work closely together to get to the next stage of detailed project planning and design. The City of Wanneroo is absolutely committed to that."
