In the lead up to the festival, children visiting participating libraries can join in ‘The Scribblers Golden Feather Treasure Hunt’ for five ‘golden feathers’ hidden in books.

Feather-shaped bookmarks have been hidden in children's and young adult books in public libraries across the state.

Children who join in the hunt for feathers by exploring the incredible range of library books on offer, will unlock a world of literary magic and storytelling.

Statewide, there are five 'Golden Feathers' to find, which will win the lucky readers a major prize, with an iPad, two-nights’ stay in a local hotel, a VIP pass to attend

Scribblers Festival and a customised book package all up for grabs.

There will be runner-up prizes for children who find one of 20 silver feathers while those who find the remaining feathers can colour, paint and decorate them before sharing their artwork on social media to win a prize.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said she was delighted that the City of Wanneroo was taking part in the first Scribblers Festival.

“The City of Wanneroo is home to four fantastic libraries and each one is a treasure trove of brilliant books and other resources for people of all ages to enjoy,” Mayor Roberts said. “The Scribblers Festival is an initiative which we hope will encourage our youngest residents to visit their local library and discover the wonderful world of books.

“Children under 11 years makeup almost 19 per cent of the City of Wanneroo’s population – compared to 15 per cent for Western Australia – and the City is dedicated to providing a range of initiatives and programs such as this, to benefit children and their families.”

The City of Wanneroo has libraries in Clarkson, Girrawheen, Wanneroo and Yanchep/Two Rocks.
