Gumblossom Community Centre to undergo upgrades following Master Plan endorsement

Published Wednesday, 17th October 2018

The Gumblossom Community Centre Master Plan was formally endorsed at the October 16 Council Meeting, guiding upgrade works and future requirements for the Quinns Rocks facility.

Gumblossom Community Centre

Classified as a Local Community Centre, Gumblossom Community Centre is designed to service 7500 people residing in the suburbs of Quinns Rocks, Clarkson, Merriwa, Mindarie and Ridgewood.

The Centre hosts a range of regular user groups, from badminton and taekwondo to playgroups and senior citizen clubs. Collectively, these groups spend an average of 250 hours each week at the facility.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said it was important that the City continues to invest in master planning to ensure facilities meet the needs of residents.

“There are parts of the Gumblossom Community Centre that were built almost 40 years ago. The master planning process helps us to ensure these areas remain functional and fit-forpurpose,” she said.

“Consequently, the $1.1million program of work outlined in the Master Plan will primarily focus on the upgrade of ageing amenities.

“As part of the process, the City engaged with community groups who regularly use Gumblossom Community Centre to identify improvement opportunities and future needs for the facility. I would like to sincerely thank those groups for their very valuable contribution.”

The Master Plan recommends the program of work be completed in four stages with Stage 1, Detailed Design; Stage 2, Playgroup works; Stage 3, Sports Hall works; and Stage 4, Community Centre works.

Following Council endorsement of the Master Plan, Stage 1 works will now be considered for inclusion in the City’s 2019/20 Capital Works budget.
