Projects given the green light for 2019

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the projects are a sign of the growing need for facilities within the City of Wanneroo.

The concept design for a sports amenities building at Belhaven Reserve, Quinns Rocks was approved, allowing for changerooms, storerooms, first aid room, umpire’s room, toilets and kitchen/kiosk with external servery.

There will also be provision for a future multi-purpose room.

Currently used by Quinns Rocks Junior Cricket Club, Quinns Rocks Little Athletics Club and Quinns Beach Primary School, the Belhaven Terrace reserve is expected to have the completed amenities building by December 2019.

The $1.4 million project will go for tender early in the new year with construction expected to begin in April.

Warradale Park in Landsdale is a step closer to having a new skate park and BMX facility.

A proposed concept plan was approved by councillors, with broader community consultation to take place over the coming months.

The City has already gone through several stages of community consultation, including focus group workshops, and will continue to engage with the local community.

A proposed site for a Skate Park in Yanchep was also considered, with Splendid Park (formerly Yanchep Active Open Space) the preferred option.

Further negotiation will occur with the land owner, Yanchep Beach Joint Venture, regarding the development of a skate park.

A portion of Hardcastle Park in Landsdale is set to be developed, with the concept design approved by council.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said careful consideration of the development and use of the park had occurred due to the vegetation at the site, resulting in the need for an environmental offset package being developed.

“We know that it has taken some time to achieve this due to the environmental approvals process, however I am sure the local community will be very happy with the results and will thoroughly enjoy their new neighbourhood space.”

The key elements in the concept plan include a central playground, junior play zone, birds nest swing and grass area, based on feedback from community consultation
