Since early 2019, construction crews have been working at the intersection preparing the area to build the new bridge and roundabout.
Stage One works have included:
- More than 4000 pot holes indicating underground services
- Drainage upgrade and relocation
- Kerbs, pavement and vegetation clearing
- Constructing new pavement - laying asphalt, kerbing and linemarking
- Western Power works to install underground powerlines and new poles
Crews will now be working seven days a week, including the public holiday on Thursday 25 April, to complete Stage One prior to a weekend intersection closure late in May / early June 2019.
Works will be undertaken at the Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive intersection between 10am and 5pm on Thursday 25 April 2019 as well as between 9am and 6pm on Sundays from 28 April to 9 June 2019.
Working the extra days are essential to ensure the program continues to run according to schedule. Works undertaken will include new road construction on all four corners of the intersection, in the areas shaded on the map below. This will involve laying sand, limestone, road base and then asphalt.
Intersection Weekend Closure
The Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive intersection will close for a weekend, from Friday evening to early Monday morning to allow work crews to safely relocate all barriers and replace the existing traffic signals with a temporary roundabout configuration. A series of detours will be in place around the intersection, but there will still be access to Drovers and Drovers Place.
The weekend closure program is still being finalised.
At this stage we are planning to close the intersection at the end of May or early June 2019. As soon as a date and details are confirmed, we will provide these details to the community and road users.
How long will the works take?
- Stage 1 works at the Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive intersection should be finished by end May / early June 2019
- Stage 2 works are scheduled to start June 2019 and finished early 2020.
The Wanneroo Joondalup Interchange project is due for completion mid 2020.
