Extractive Industry Licence Application – Northeastern Portion of Lot 6 (86) Wesco Road and Adjoining Portion of Lot 7 (136) Wesco Road, Nowergup

Development Approvals were granted by the City of Wanneroo to Meteor Stone to carry out Extractive Industry on portions of Lot 6 (86) and Lot 7 (136) Wesco Road, Nowergup on 21 November 2014 and 2 December 2020. In accordance with the requirements of the City of Wanneroo’s Extractive Industries Local Law 1998, Meteor Stone has also submitted an Extractive Industry Licence application to continue limestone extraction (and other associated activities) on this land, which is now subject to public comment.

Key details of the works subject to the Extractive Industry Licence application are as follows:

  • The life of the project across Meteor Stone leased areas is expected to be about 20 years. An Extractive Industry Licence over portions of Lot 6 and Lot 7 can only be granted to 21 November 2024, in line with relevant development approvals issued;
  • Approximately 50,000 tonnes of limestone is extracted from the subject portions of Lot 6 and Lot 7 per year. Limestone extracted will be crushed and screened, or used in the manufacture of reconstituted limestone blocks on Lot 6;
  • Reconstituted limestone block manufacture on Lot 6 also uses resources extracted from Meteor Stone’s Mining Lease area further to the east. Activities in that Mining Lease area are not subject to the Extractive Industry Licence application;
  • It is expected that there will be an average of ten vehicle movements per day;
  • Operating hours of 6.00am – 5:00pm Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays);
  • Vehicle access into the subject land is from Wesco Road; and
  • An existing site compound and ancillary facilities located on Lot 6 will continue to be utilised. These will be accessible to those working on Lot 7 and the Mining Lease area.

Potential submitters should note that there is another separate Extractive Industry Licence application affecting Lot 6 (86) Wesco Road, which is also being advertised. That application affects different portions of Lot 6 and has been submitted by Northsands Resources.
