What can I put in my bins?

Check below to see what to put in what bin. This helps to reduce waste that goes to landfill and improves recycling. 

General waste bin

The waste from your general waste bin is turned into soil enhancer at the Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) in Neerbup.

  • Food waste
  • Dirty paper and cardboard
  • Shredded paper
  • Grass clippings and leaves
  • Pet droppings
  • Unrepairable clothing
  • Nappies and sanitary items

DO NOT PUT THE FOLLOWING 

  • Glass or ceramics - put in recycling
  • Building materials (sand, rocks, bricks) - drop off at disposal point
  • Hazardous waste - drop off at recycling point
  • Batteries - drop off at battery recycling point
  • Liquids (including oil or paint)

Contents from your recycling bin are sorted at a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) before being reprocessed into new products.

  • Glass bottles/jar (broken and whole)
  • Clean paper, magazines and cardboard
  • Clean cardboard boxes (flattened)
  • Steel/aluminium cans (clean and empty)
  • Milk and juice cartons
  • Plastic bottles/containers (clean, empty and with no lids)

DO NOT PUT THE FOLLOWING 

  • Plastic bags - return to supermarket
  • Green waste or food waste - put in general waste bin
  • Hazardous waste - drop off at recycling point
  • Textiles/clothing - donate to charity if in good condition
  • Nappies - put in general waste bin
