The City has identified the need to redevelop the existing Wanneroo Recreation Centre to include a Sports Hub and separate Community Hub to meets the needs and requirements of existing and future users.
It is proposed the separate hubs are provided in two phases, with the first being the new Sports Hub and the second the Community Hub upgrade.
Following community consultation in 2023, the concept design for the Sports Hub was approved by Council in June 2024. More information about this stage of the project can be viewed on our Your Say community consultation page.
Part of the existing sports field will be taken up by the new hub, which will feature:
- a reception area
- sports hall with two basketball courts
- boxing club room
- calisthenics/fitness room
- two change rooms
- a Changing Places facility
- Universal Access Toilet
- multipurpose meeting room with adjoining kitchen/servery
- 72 car parking bays.
It is anticipated further consultation on the Community Hub will take place in 2025, with delivery scheduled for 2027/2028.
The Wanneroo Recreation Precinct is one of the City’s key advocacy projects.
