Placement Areas

// Ticket ID - 96289 The information below details the requirements for placements in the areas which the City regularly facilitates. All applications must include a cover letter detailing why it is you are interested in completing work experience here at the City of Wanneroo.

Students should be aware that where a nominated placement area falls outside of those listed below, there is a reduced likelihood of an application being successful due to the City’s capacity to facilitate the placement. 

Applications can only be considered for a nominated placement area when the intake is open. Applications received outside of the application dates will not be considered until the next intake is open.

Aquatics (Pool Lifeguard)

This placement gives students enrolled in a Pool Lifeguard Course the opportunity to complete their practical hours at Wanneroo Aquamotion.

Location(s): Wanneroo Aquamotion

Placement Length: 3 x 5 hour sessions

Course requirements: Completed the Royal Life Saving Society’s Pool Lifeguard Course

Physical Requirements of role: High Impact

Application Dates: Ongoing

Community Development

This placement sees students spend time within the Community Development service unit, gaining insight into the development and implementation of community development activities and capacity building initiatives. This placement ranges across childhood and youth services, community capacity building and engagement, access and inclusion, multicultural communities, vulnerable cohorts, reconciliation and age friendly and other community development areas of focus.

Location(s): City of Wanneroo Civic Centre

Placement length: 100 hours (flexible to suit student requirements)

Course Requirements: Enrolled in Community Development (Murdoch) or Human Services and Community Work (ECU) degree or similar

Physical Requirements of the role: Low Impact

Application Dates: Ongoing

Additional:  Students may be required to hold a Working with Children Check to be considered for this placement

Health & Compliance

This placement gives students enrolled in a relevant Environmental Health degree the opportunity to complete their practical hours here at the City as a part of the Health & Compliance team. 

Location(s): City of Wanneroo Civic Centre

Placement Duration: 200 hours (per course requirements)

Course Requirements: Enrolled in a Health, Safety and Environment (Curtin) or Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (ECU) Degree or similar

Physical Requirements of role: Medium Impact

Application Dates:  January 1st- March 10th & June 1st – August 4th   

Additional: This placement involves off-site visits and as such students are required to have a Safety Induction Whitecard and Steel Cap Boots.

Library Services

This placement gives students studying a course in Library Services the opportunity to complete their practical hours here in one of the City’s three community libraries.

Location(s): Wanneroo Library, Clarkson Library, Girrawheen Library

Placement Duration: 12 Days (flexible to suit student requirements)

Course Requirements: Enrolled in a Library & Information Services Course (or similar) with a TAFE or University

Physical Requirements of role: Low Impact (Frequent Standing & Lifting of Small Objects)

Application Dates:  October 1st  – November 26th  & May 1st  – June 30th (TAFE students)

       January 1st- March 10th & June 1st – August 4th (All other students)

Property Services

This placement provides an opportunity for students pursuing a career in property or law to gain practical experience with the City’s Property Services division. This team provides coordination and administration of City land holdings as well as to design and optimise land use via leases, development and management.  

Location(s): City of Wanneroo Civic Centre

Placement Duration: 10 Days (flexible to suit student requirements)

Course Requirements: Enrolled in a Property related degree or a Business/Law degree with an interest in property

Physical Requirements of role: Low Impact

Application Dates:    January 1st- March 10th & June 1st – August 4th   

Sport & Recreation

This placement provides students studying a Sport and Recreation degree/diploma the opportunity to complete their practical hours with the City at Kingsway Indoor Stadium.

Location(s): Kingsway Indoor Stadium

Placement Length: 20-30 hours (flexible to suit student requirements)

Course requirements: Enrolled in Sport & Recreation degree or similar

Physical Requirements of role: Medium Impact  

Intake: January 1st- March 10th & June 1st – August 4th   

Traffic Services

This placement provides students studying an Engineering qualification with an interest in traffic the opportunity to gain practical experience with the Traffic Services team at the City.

Location(s): City of Wanneroo Civic Centre

Placement Duration: 10 Days (flexible to suit student requirements)

Course Requirements: Enrolled in Certificate III in Engineering, Diploma of Civil Engineering or similar

Physical Requirements of role: Low Impact
