Nod to market garden history with new Pearsall park

The Pearsall community will benefit from a new open space, with the development of Salitage Park.

Salitage Park Plan
Councillors agreed to award the tender at last night’s Council meeting, with construction expected to begin in coming months.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said she was pleased that the City was providing another local park for the residents of Pearsall, which is surrounded by residential homes.

“Salitage Park will be a space that promotes healthy outdoor activities for all ages, with a playground, fitness equipment, park furniture, path network, landscaping and grassed areas,” Mayor Roberts said. “My favourite feature, however, is the orchard of citrus trees that commemorate the existence of market gardens in the area prior to residential development.

“Our market garden history is an enormous part of Wanneroo’s history and I think it is fantastic that it is being honoured in this way.”

The 0.8hectare park is on the corner of Matta Way and Salitage Link, and the City liaised with the local community throughout the development of the concept plan.

It is expected the park will be open to the public late this year
