City’s Community Funding round closing soon

Published Thursday, 27th September 2018

Community groups, organisations and clubs are encouraged to apply for funding support through the City of Wanneroo’s Community Funding Program. Applications close 24 October.

Community funding

The Program offers a valuable opportunity for groups based in the City of Wanneroo, or with a primary interest in the City, to secure financial support for projects, activities and events which will take place next year.

Last year the Recreational Trailbike Riders Association (RTBA) received $3,000 in funding to go towards their Friends of Pinjar project.

The project aims to increase visitors to the Pinjar off-road vehicle area in Nowergup which includes pine plantation and open cleared scrubland and is managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

RTRA committee member Don Martin said the area is open to the public so anyone can visit at any time and get involved with trailbike riding.

“The Pinjar motorcycle off-road riding area is the premiere facility of its kind in Western Australia, giving people somewhere safe and legal to go trail-biking,” Don said.

“It draws visitors from all over the state, bringing tourism and economic benefits to the City of Wanneroo, so much so that the facility is being used as a model for other projects in WA.

“The funding grant received from the City of Wanneroo was valuable because it went towards marketing materials and a launch event for our Friends of Pinjar project.

“We have already seen an increase in visitors and we hope this will continue to grow.” Mayor Tracey Roberts and Deputy Mayor Natalie Sangalli attended the Friends of Pinjar launch event in May.

“It was wonderful to see so many members of the community at Pinjar enjoying the experience of responsible and well organised trail-riding in the City,” Mayor Roberts said.

“These types of projects and events really do contribute to the fantastic community spirit in the City of Wanneroo.”

Applications for the City’s Community Funding Program close on 24 October 2018.
