This exhibition shows how ‘crafting’ – traditionally considered women’s work – can be used for political expression and social change.
Changemakers consists of eight textile banners that represent a range of historical and contemporary activist movements including the women’s suffrage campaign, as well as banners displayed in town halls and churches.
Many of the social issues raised by early activists remain vitally relevant today, including equal pay, sexual harassment, family violence, and female representation in Parliament and business.

People will be offered information and examples and learn skills through enjoyable writing exercises. Each workshop will include time dedicated to writing freely, and expert guidance in bringing to life in words participants’ chosen stories, whether a snapshot in time of a past Wanneroo or an anecdote from family history.
Presenter Josephine Taylor is a writer, editor, and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Writing at Edith Cowan University. She is a long-time resident in the Wanneroo area, having migrated from England in 1966. Josephine teaches, facilitates, and judges in literary fiction and creative non-fiction.
Please only book if you can attend all three workshops, as this is a three- part event and places are limited.
