Information

Proposed Community Purpose (Cultural and Community Centre) at Lot 501 (1) Curtis Way, Girrawheen (DA2023/421)

The abovementioned development application is currently being advertised for public comment until 15 June 2023.

The application proposes a Community Purpose (Cultural and Community Centre) at the abovementioned property address.

Details of the proposal are as follows:

  • Construction of a 47.65 metres by 19.85 metres Community Centre located centrally within the subject property;
  • The Community Centre internally incorporates a playing court, internal seating areas, a series of multi purpose rooms, kitchen, storage areas and amenities;
  • The Centre will operate year round with activities typically occurring between the hours of 9:00am and 9:00pm;
  • The Centre will typically accommodate approximately 100 patrons per day, however, is designed to accommodate a maximum of 300 patrons at any one time;
  • 81 car parking bays to be developed to the south of the property which includes 60 bays intended to be developed initially and a further 21 car parking bays to be developed in the future; and
  • Clearing of vegetation on the property to the extent necessary to accommodate the Community Centre.

It is noted at this time the Western Australian Planning Commission is considering a Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS) Amendment to the subject property (Ref 1398/57) which intends to rezone the subject property from ‘Public Purposes – High School’ to ‘Urban’ under the MRS. This application reflects the proposed development to be undertaken on site should the amendment be approved by the Minister for Planning.

The proposal will be assessed against the relevant requirements of the City’s District Planning Scheme No.2 (DPS 2). For more information on the applicable planning requirements, please refer to Part 4: General Development Requirements of DPS 2 (Page 28), which can be found here:
