Museums in a Box
Wanneroo Regional Museum also offer a range of outreach resources for local schools and early learning centres to borrow free of charge. These Museums in a Box can be used as a wonderful extension to your museum visit, enable stand-alone lessons or provide intriguing, tangible artefacts which will add to students’ learning experience.
ANZAC Museum in a Box
The ANZAC Museum boxes have been designed for learning through discovery and observation. The suite of activities provided form a very unique education program closely linked to the Australian Curriculum.
Four individual boxes are available which tell the story of some of the people and organisations connected to the history of Wanneroo. They have been designed for schools to borrow, and contain a Teacher’s Guide, ‘hands-on’ objects such as uniforms, artillery casings, music and object cards and various interpretation activities.
The boxes are ideal not only for ANZAC related topics, but also in investigating ‘then and now’, in exploring the authentic use of text types such as letters and diaries, and in photographic interpretation.
Box 1: Richard Smales, a young soldier who died on the Somme.
Box 2: Vincent Berriman, a soldier who was fortunate enough to return home.
Box 3: AANS Nurse, Sister Anne Donnell who served on the Western Front and Lemnos.
Box 4: The role of the Red Cross on the home front.

Noongar Museum in a Box - (Early childhood pre-school to Year 1/2)
Designed in close consultation with local Aboriginal educators, these resource kits support children’s emerging understanding of contemporary Aboriginal cultures and history with a particular focus on local Noongar culture. The materials are intended for young children and are very tactile and multi-sensory.
The teacher’s guides are jam-packed with activity suggestions to incorporate in everyday teaching. They contain background information on each topic, cultural protocols and suggestions to improve teachers’ cultural competence and confidence in incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in program delivery for the Early Years Learning Framework and the (Western) Australian Curriculum.

Major themes: introduction to the length and breadth of Aboriginal cultures and histories; flag symbols; introduction to Noongar Country and language; introduction to Nyitting (Dreaming).

Schooling Museum in a Box
Take students on a journey to school in yesteryear! The Wanneroo State School, now named the Old Wanneroo Schoolhouse.
This is a wonderful resource for students to compare school life from the past to the present.
The Schooling Museum in a Box contains:
- A class set of slate boards and chalk
- Sample nib pens and ink, plus writing sample guides
- A selection of vintage books
- Vintage games: wooden quoits, skittles and hoops
- Assortment of photographs and puzzles
- Teacher guide with background information and activity suggestions
- A series of videos about the Old Wanneroo Schoolhouse that are designed for the class to follow along and complete activities, to replicate being part of an school lesson from the past.

Technology Mystery box
How has technology changed over time? These resource kits provide a tangible way of exploring this question. Each contains eight objects which are intriguing examples of common household items, such as gramaphone needles, a record, an old typewriter, a metal hot water bottle, a telegram, and more. Conducting historical enquiry through object investigation is a wonderful way of engaging children’s curiosity and interest about the past.
A teacher's guide to Historical Enquiry through Object Investigation is included, along with a description of each object and its historical context.
