Clarecastle Retreat Groyne Access

Update – June 2021

The concrete pathway and FRP staircase leading to the Mindarie Spur Groyne at the end of Clarecastle Retreat is now open to the public. Due to material supply issues, the final section of balustrade has not yet been installed by the City’s Contractor. These works along with minor remaining earthworks are expected to be completed in early July 2021. In the interim, the gaps in the balustrade have been secured with temporary orange safety bunting which will remain in place until completion of the works.

Update - May 2021

Installation of the concrete pathway is complete and installation of the staircase is well underway. Staircase installation is expected to be complete by early June 2021, subject to suitable weather conditions throughout the remainder of the works.

Update - April 2021

Manufacturing of staircase components is complete and construction works are scheduled to commence on Thursday 22 April 2021. Construction and installation is expected to be completed by 17 May 2021 subject to suitable weather and site conditions during the works.

Update - February 2021

All necessary approvals have been sought for the construction of the access way and PML Installations have been appointed as the construction contractor. Manufacturing of staircase components is currently underway and construction works are expected to commence at the end of March 2021 subject to fabrication timeframes. Construction and installation is expected to be completed by the end of April 2021, however this is dependent on suitable weather and site conditions during the works.

Update - 28 February 2020

The design of the new Access Structure has been completed on the basis of following a similar alignment and extent to the existing. This minimises the levels of earthwork and potential rock breaking required during construction. The new Access Structure consists of the following components:

  • A new concrete path would be constructed at the location of the existing boardwalk.
  • A new Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) staircase structure, will replace the existing timber stairs

Detailed design of a replacement concrete path and staircase structure was completed in February 2020. Installation works are scheduled for 2020/21 following receipt of all necessary approvals and appointment of a construction contractor.

Update – November 2019

This Boardwalk & Staircase Structure has been selected for upgrade as part of the City of Wanneroo’s Beach Access Ways Upgrade Program. This Access Way has been identified by the City as a location requiring asset renewal/replacement following a condition assessment of the entire City’s coastal assets by engineering consultant, AECOM in 2015.

This access site is also sheltered by the main Mindarie Breakwater Structure and the Spur Groyne, which collectively provide calm conditions inside the marina and protect infrastructure.

Detailed design of a replacement pathway, boardwalk and staircase structure is currently underway and is expected to be completed in December 2019. Installation works are scheduled for 2020/21 following receipt of all necessary approvals and appointment of a construction contractor.
